Vitals expresses its ambition to develop the most progressive nutritional supplements. The quality and scientific substantiation of the ingredients are central to this. This ambition also includes a conscious choice for sustainability. ‘As a company, we are a great supporter of the circular economy’, says Willem Koster, COO of Vitals. ‘That is why we opt for optimally recyclable packaging and strive for a lower CO2 footprint. This is how we came into contact with De Budelse, which now prints our bilingual packaging on Paperwise cardboard.’
The company is constantly working to expand its range, improve products and enter new markets. For example, there was a desire to also sell our nutritional supplements in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. ‘We have used these expansion plans to make a sustainability push’, Willem Koster continues his story.
Biobased pots and boxes made from agricultural waste
When choosing packaging, Vitals faced an important consideration: what is the most sustainable solution? ‘We have opted for new, recyclable, biobased plastic pots’, Willem Koster explains. ‘They are packed in boxes made from PaperWise cardboard. This is a CO2-neutral product, made from plant residues that remain after the harvest. Using agricultural waste as a raw material for paper and cardboard is environmentally friendly and gives farmers an additional source of income.’

Vitals asked PaperWise which printer was suitable to print these sustainable cardboard packaging. A recommendation brought the company into contact with De Budelse. Willem Koster is very pleased with the collaboration. ‘De Budelse already had experience with PaperWise cardboard, and seemed to have advanced collaboration options. That was the deciding factor for us to choose them. And to be honest: De Budelse has more than met the high expectations as an innovative, sustainable printer. Not only do they print the boxes in two languages, they also arrange the printing of the accompanying labels. And they take us by the hand from the first design. For Vitals it is very pleasant to have one point of contact for all printing.’
In the collaboration, Willem Koster notices that De Budelse has made further progress in the possibilities to manage files themselves, order, store and deliver printing. ‘We will definitely use these possibilities in the long term’, he looks ahead to the future. ‘We want to be more self-reliant. It works much more effectively if we – without the intervention of others – adjust the designs, prepare them for production and place the orders via the automated system. Once we have the management ourselves, it will be child's play to apply small adjustments and place orders.’

Vitals is pleased that De Budelse also highly values the unique combination of ambition and sustainability. ‘We are not a marketing company that sells hot air’, concludes Willem Koster. ‘Ambition is our starting point. We want to develop progressive nutritional supplements that meet a need. The information we provide in this regard is crucial. Without a good scientific basis, a product will not be included in our range. And besides that, we do not only want to take care of the health of people, but also of the health of our planet. It is nice that these values are also represented at De Budelse.’
